Looking for Lichen

Lichens are found in nearly every habitat on Earth. Despite being often overlooked, they are extremely useful indicators of both air pollution and climate change. Embark on a lichen-centric ramble through Duke Gardens to explore the fascinating world of these curious organisms. Learn to identify different kinds of lichens and understand their ecological roles.   

Fee: $22; 20% discount for Duke Gardens members with discount code.   

Parking: Parking is included and available only for the program duration.   

Location: Onsite at Duke Gardens. Directions will be included in the program reminder.   

Accessibility: This will be a small group program that takes place partially seated indoors and partially outdoors traveling on a combination of paved and unpaved paths with some uneven surfaces and moderate inclines.  

Please note: Construction for the transformative Garden Gateway Project is underway. Look for parking instructions and meeting location details included in the program reminder email sent the week before each program date. The Doris Duke Center and main visitor parking lots will be closed for the duration of construction.
