CEBOLLETAS
Allium spp.
Las cebolletas, también llamadas cebollas verdes, se originaron en Asia Central y fueron uno de los primeros cultivos que fueron cultivados por los humanos. En la cocina china, forman la base de los salteados, junto con el ajo y el jengibre. Las cebolletas también se utilizan en la medicina tradicional china para tratar la fiebre, la congestión y los dolores de cabeza, como se vio por primera vez en el clásico libro de herboristería 神农本草经 (Shennong Bencaojing) hace unos 2,000 años.

SCALLIONS
Allium spp.
Scallions, also called green onions, originated in Central Asia and were one of the earliest crops to be cultivated by people. In Chinese cooking, they form the base of stir-fry, along with garlic and ginger. Scallions are also used in Chinese traditional medicine to treat fever, congestion and headaches, as first seen in the classic herbalism book 神农本草经 (Shennong Bencaojing) about 2,000 years ago.
Did you know you can grow more scallions from the ones you already have?
Cut off 1 to 2 inches of the white ends of the plant and then submerge the roots in water. The greens will continue to grow from there!

Why is this sign in Spanish?
Visitors to Duke Gardens speak many different languages. English and Spanish are two of the most common primary languages in our area today.
Reading a sign is generally an easier way to get information in the garden than scanning a QR code to go to a website for a translation, as you might have noticed! When our signs can only be printed in one language due to size constraints, we vary which language is on the sign and which is on the website so that both English and Spanish speakers have the opportunity to read signs in person.
